Cashless Insurance and Mediclaim Facility
Official Hospital Empanelled Panels & Cashless Benefits for Patients of Dr Rohan Patel
If you or a family member has been advised robotic surgery for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, or a complex urology condition, one of the very first worries is usually not the operation itself, but the cost. It's a fair concern, and it deserves a clear answer. The good news is that cashless insurance and mediclaim facilities are available for robotic and urological surgery in Ahmedabad, so that in most cases you can focus on your treatment and recovery rather than arranging large sums of money at short notice.
Robotic surgeries and major urology surgeries under the care of Dr. Rohan Patel are performed at Apollo Hospitals and Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad — JCI and NABH accredited hospitals empanelled with a wide range of health insurance companies, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), government health schemes and public-sector organisations. Between these two hospitals, virtually every major insurer and panel in India is covered. That means, if your policy or panel is on the list below, your hospital bills can be settled directly between the hospital and your insurer, with little or no upfront payment from you.

How the Cashless Insurance Process Works for Planned Surgery
For a planned (non-emergency) robotic or urology surgery, the process is straightforward:
- Consultation and surgical plan. After your consultation, Dr. Patel and the team confirm the recommended procedure — for example, robotic radical prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, or robotic cystectomy, or any urological surgery — along with an estimated cost.
- Share your insurance details. Bring your health insurance card (or policy number) and a government photo ID. The hospital's insurance/TPA desk checks whether your insurer or panel is empanelled and what your policy covers.
- Pre-authorisation request. The hospital sends a pre-authorisation request to your insurer/TPA with the diagnosis, planned procedure and estimated cost.
- Approval. Your insurer/TPA reviews and issues an approval (pre-authorisation) for the eligible amount. For planned surgery this is usually completed before admission.
- Admission and surgery. You are admitted, and the surgery is performed as planned.
- Direct settlement at discharge. At discharge, the approved amount is settled directly with your insurer/TPA. You pay only for non-covered items, if any.
Disclaimer: coverage varies from policy to policy. Two patients with the same surgery can have very different out-of-pocket amounts depending on their plan, room-rent limits, waiting periods and sub-limits. That's exactly why we encourage you to verify your specific coverage with us before your admission date — so there are no surprises.
What is a Cashless Mediclaim Facility for Urology Surgery?
There are two ways a health insurance claim is settled in India, and it helps to know the difference:
Cashless treatment means the hospital and your insurer (or its TPA) settle the approved bill directly. You don't pay the covered amount out of your own pocket at the time of surgery — you only pay for items that fall outside your policy (for example, a room upgrade beyond your eligible category, or non-medical consumables, depending on your plan).
Reimbursement means you pay the hospital first, collect all the bills and documents, and then submit a claim to your insurer to get the amount back later.
For planned robotic surgery, cashless is almost always the smoother route, because it can be arranged in advance. Our insurance desk helps you initiate this well before your admission date.
Does health insurance cover robotic surgery in India?
Yes — in most modern health insurance policies, robotic surgery is covered, because it is an advanced surgical technique used to treat a genuine medical condition, not a cosmetic or elective procedure. Robotic-assisted surgery for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer and complex kidney/urology conditions is recognised, hospital-based treatment, and is generally treated the same way as any other in-patient surgery for claim purposes.
That said, a few points are worth understanding:
- Some older or very basic policies may have specific clauses around advanced procedures, so the exact eligible amount depends on your individual plan.
- Room-rent limits and sub-limits in your policy can affect the final settled amount, because many charges are linked proportionally to your eligible room category.
- Waiting periods may apply if your condition is considered pre-existing under your policy's terms.
None of this should discourage you — it simply means the smart step is to let us check your policy before surgery, so you know your likely coverage in advance. Our team does this routinely and will explain it to you in plain language.
What documents should you bring?
To make your cashless pre-authorisation quick and smooth, please keep these ready:
- Your health insurance card or policy number (digital copy on your insurer's app is fine)
- A government photo ID (such as an Aadhaar card or PAN card)
- For CGHS/ECHS/ESIC and PSU panels: your scheme card / employee or pensioner ID
- Any doctor's referral or advice note and your existing reports/scans
- For pensioners and dependents: relevant dependant / eligibility proof as required by your scheme
If anything on this list is difficult to arrange, don't worry — tell our team and we'll guide you through the alternatives.
Frequently asked questions
Is robotic surgery covered under health insurance in India?
In most modern health insurance policies, yes. Robotic-assisted surgery for conditions like prostate cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer is medically necessary in-patient treatment and is generally covered like any other surgery. The exact eligible amount depends on your specific policy, its room-rent limits and any sub-limits, so it's best to have your plan checked before surgery.
Can I get cashless treatment for robotic cancer surgery in Ahmedabad?
Yes. Robotic surgeries under Dr. Rohan Patel are performed at Apollo Hospitals and Sterling Hospitals, Ahmedabad — JCI and NABH accredited hospitals empanelled with a wide range of insurers and TPAs. If your insurer is on the panel, your bills can be settled directly through cashless pre-authorisation.
How do I start the cashless process?
Share your insurance card and a government photo ID with the hospital's insurance desk. The team sends a pre-authorisation request to your insurer or TPA, and once it's approved — usually before admission for planned surgery — your treatment proceeds with direct settlement at discharge.
What if my insurer is not on the empanelled list?
You can still be treated. In that case, treatment can usually proceed on a reimbursement basis — you pay first and claim the amount back from your insurer afterwards with the hospital bills and documents. Contact us to verify whether your insurance is accepted before your admission.
Does insurance cover the full cost of robotic surgery?
It covers the eligible amount under your policy. Some items — such as a room category above your entitlement or certain non-medical consumables — may be payable by you, depending on your plan. Our team explains your likely out-of-pocket cost in advance so there are no surprises.
Are CGHS, ECHS and ESIC accepted?
Yes. CGHS, ECHS and ESIC (for eligible employees and pensioners), along with several PSU and government organisation panels, are accepted for cashless treatment. Please bring your scheme card or employee/pensioner ID.
